Store Tour: Elegantz, North Myrtle Beach, SC

I have browsed through many stores lately and I have been so impressed with the wealth of talent and the beauty of the items displayed.  I have decided to start a series of blog posts presenting the local fashion and style stores featuring local designers. You will have a chance to learn more about the local stores, the story behind the owners and who they are. We will take a look at the local designers and talented artists whose creations are displayed in these stores.

Here is the first one in the series, the Elegantz Store in North Myrtle Beach, SC. I asked Cindi Chapman, the owner, to share with us a few things about herself….

“I am first and foremost a mother of 3 children. 2 daughters and a son and now I am a proud MeMa as well. I am a nurse and worked in the medical field since 1979. I always had a burning in my heart for traveling, fashion & art. Since I could not travel due to raising my children, I now have been able to start my own woman’s boutique and art gallery. And guess what, now I travel to go to apparel shows. I do have one more dream to accomplish and that is designing and building wooden boats. I have always loved to sail, kayak, things like that.”

Q. Can you tell us how the story began for your store?
A. I have always had an appreciation of style and art. I have paid attention to the boutiques around the beach and no one promotes both art and clothing together. I must say it took me a year to come up with the idea to marry the two together. I have had a burning desire to have my own business for many years.

Q. What attracts people to your store, what is unique about it?
A. What attracts people to my store and its uniqueness are the same thing. I began with my own choices of clothing but I decided to use local artists and designers for my jewelry, gifts and artworks. I have listened to them as to what they have been successful with. Then as my clientel began to grow I have listened to their wats and desires. For example many of my customers asked me about “Not Your Daughters Jeans,” so I researched it and contacted the rep. We will be carrying the line come this spring. What sets me appart is the fact that I listen to my clients wants and desires in both fashion and art and make all efforts to obtain them.

Q. How do you choose the collections for your store?
A. I choose my collections based on my clients suggestions and desires as well as listened to my artists. I strive to please.

Q. What is your favorite quote?
A. Every woman wants and deserves her own style. Style is fashion, fashion is art! So, we have Elegantz!
